If you’ve read our Kajabi review, you’ll know that we highly recommend Kajabi for creating and selling online courses.
But what if you have no idea how to use Kajabi and create a course?
No worries, we have you covered!
In this Kajabi tutorial, we’ll walk you through the process step-by-step, so you can start creating an amazing course right away.
In the end, we’ll also share some bonus tips to help you make the most of Kajabi’s features.
Let’s get started.
1. Create a Kajabi Account
If you want to sell your course on Kajabi, you first have to create an account.
To create one, go to Kajabi.com, and you’ll see a page like the one below. You’ll see a special offer for a 30-day free trial on this page. Click the Claim your free 30-day trial button.
Then, write down your name and email address, create your password, and enter your credit or debit card information to start the free trial.
Once you have completed these steps, your Kajabi account will be ready, and you can start setting up your online course.
2. Set Up Your Online Course
After creating your account, Kajabi will take you to your admin homepage, where you can build an online course.
Kajabi’s backend has a clean, intuitive design, and you’ll find all the menu options in the left panel.
From here, select Products and then click + New Product.
Kajabi supports four main product types:
Choose the Course option and then click Get Started.
Next, create a title for your course and provide a brief description (optional).
Kajabi will then ask you to choose from the four available templates for online courses:
- Online course
- Blank course
- Drip course
We recommend using the Blank template as it’s faster to create a course in Kajabi this way.
After you select a template, Kajabi will ask you to upload the course thumbnail and set pricing.
First, you can make your course free or paid.
You’ll need to integrate your payment gateways (Stripe or PayPal) to charge for a course. If you haven’t done so already, Kajabi will prompt you to do that.
For paid courses, Kajabi supports the following pricing options:
If you choose the one-time payment option, write the price the customers will pay in the Price field.
If you want to offer an installment option, write the price and the number of months over which the payment will be completed.
Lastly, for a subscription-based payment model, select the price and frequency your customers will be charged. This pricing option will be useful if you want to run a membership site on Kajabi.
Once you’re done, click Save and Finish to go to the course builder, where you can create the curriculum and upload content to your lessons.
Here you can add modules and lessons to your course and add content to them.
To add a module, click the Add Content button and select Module.
You can add lessons to your course in a similar way.
However, the quickest way to create lessons and add content is by using the bulk uploader. You can select multiple files and drop them onto the uploader, and Kajabi will automatically turn them into lessons. You can then reorder the lessons as you like.
Watch this video to see how the bulk uploader in Kajabi works.
You can also add content to a lesson through the lesson editor, which you can access by clicking on the lesson name in the course builder.
Here you can add a video/audio to your lesson, add text content, and attach a downloadable file.
Now, let’s show you how to add a quiz to your course.
Go back to the course builder, click Add Content, and select the Quiz option.
This will take you to the quiz editor, where you can add questions and do other settings.
Kajabi supports four quiz question types:
- Multiple choice
- Short answer
- File upload
If you want to create an automatically graded quiz, you can work with multiple-choice and checkbox-style questions. But if you’re going to create more like an assignment, the short answer and file upload options will come in handy.
Lastly, you can configure the course delivery options and set how your course modules will become available:
- Content Drip: Release the course module after a certain number of days.
- Content Lock: Lock the module unless a specific lesson is marked complete.
You can access these settings on the course curriculum page. You’ll see that each module has a drop-down menu from which you can enable these options.
After you create the lessons and figure out these course settings, you can start designing your course area.
3. Design Your Course Area
Having a well-designed course area will go a long way in creating a fantastic end-user experience, and Kajabi has powerful tools to help you customize it and create a unique look and feel for your online course.
It offers multiple course player themes so that you can change the course area design in a single click.
To access the themes, go to the Customize tab in your course menu and click the Install Template button.
The available course player templates include the following:
You can also preview the templates and choose the one that meets your needs.
Now, you can further customize these templates.
To do that, go back and expand the Installed Templates section. Here you’ll see the template you just installed.
You can edit the template by clicking the ellipsis icon and selecting the Customize option.
This will take you to the editor, where you can modify the layout and design of the course player.
When you’re happy with the changes, you can move on to creating a sales page for your online course.
4. Build Your Course Sales Page
You’ll need a sales page to start selling your online course. Fortunately, Kajabi has a drag-and-drop landing page builder that’s easy to use yet has flexible design options.
To start building your sales page, go to Website -> Pages and navigate to the Landing tab.
Click + New Landing Page, and you’ll see a bunch of landing page templates.
Scroll down to the Sales section and click View All to explore all the available sales page templates.
Once you select a template, Kajabi will take you to the page builder, where you can customize the sales page as you like.
It’s a visual page builder, so you can see a real-time preview of your page while editing it.
To add a new section to your page, click Add Section in the left panel. You can then select from the preset sections and add to the page.
To edit a page section, you need to click on the section name in the left panel, and you’ll see all the available options. Watch this video to see how to modify a page section in Kajabi.

After you’re satisfied with the design of your sales page, remember to add the checkout page URL to the CTA buttons on this page.
5. Final Settings and Course Publishing
Once your online course is ready, you should do the final touches and make sure that everything works fine.
Integrate a Custom Domain
By default, your course website is on a Kajabi subdomain (courses.mykajabi.com).
If you don’t like the Kajabi branding in your domain, consider integrating your custom domain.
Of course, if you don’t already own a domain, you must first purchase one and deal with the integration afterward.
However, if you already have a domain, go to Settings -> Site Details.
Here you’ll find a field called Subdomain, along which you’ll see the Manage Domain option. Click on it, and you can then set up a custom domain.
To connect your domain, you’ll need to point the nameservers to Kajabi. Check out this support article for detailed steps on configuring a custom domain.
Do the Basic Integrations
Next, you should move on to the basic integrations. Kajabi offers a wide range of integrations with popular marketing tools, but you must do a few essential ones:
- Google Analytics: While Kajabi has a native analytics tool, Google Analytics offers more comprehensive insights into your website performance, and you must set it up.
- Email service provider: If you’re using Kajabi’s email marketing tools, you don’t need to set this up. However, if you plan to use a third-party email provider (e.g., ActiveCampaign), you integrate it with Kajabi.
- Zapier: While you don’t need to set up a Zapier integration immediately, it’s an essential tool nowadays. If you want to pass information to any tool which doesn’t directly integrate with Kajabi, you can use Zapier.
To set up these integrations, go to Settings -> Third-Party Integrations and select the tool you want to integrate.
Make a Free Purchase and Test the Flow
Before making your online course public, your final task should be to the entire purchase flow from a customer’s point of view.
To do that, create a 100% off coupon for your course.
Now, grab the sales page URL and visit it in a private window. Then, make sure to apply the coupon on the checkout page and complete the purchase.
This is a great way to test the entire experience from start to finish, catch any minor issues along the way, and correct them before sharing your course.
After you’ve done this, you can start sharing the course sales page URL with your audience.
